Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. Each week we may have up to 40 volunteers working on a new construction home, 20 volunteers working to repair an existing home in our Brush with Kindness Program, 10 volunteers working at the ReStore arranging and pricing merchandise, and 5 volunteers during the week working in the administration office.

Last year alone we had over 6,000 volunteers provide more than 31,000 hours of service to build and support our Habitat and ReStore operations. This gift of time saves us millions of dollars on labor costs each year.

Volunteering for NCC Habitat jobs is simple. Each volunteer must complete an orientation class which takes about an hour. This class is given at our administrative office and is generally held the first Thursday and the third Saturday of each month. See our Calendar of Events (link) for specific dates and times.

After you’ve completed orientation, you will be on our weekly email list informing you about our volunteer opportunities each week. You can then choose the day and tasks you would like to volunteer for by submitting an RSVP to our weekly needs.

Volunteering at NCC Habitat is as easy as 1, 2, 3…

Step 1: Register for a Volunteer OrientationCottonwood Creek NRI 3

  • Check out our Calendar of Events for scheduled Orientation classes which are generally offered twice each month.
  • RSVP for the day and time most convenient for you by emailing our Volunteer Coordinator at Click here for registering now.
  • Check our Website for any changes to the Orientation the day of the event.

Step 2: Attend Volunteer Orientation & Complete Application

  • The volunteer orientation will provide you with an understanding of NCC Habitat’s programs, information on how to get started, and answer any questions you might have.
  • The class will contain important safety information you will need while working on the job site or in the ReStore.
  • While at the class you will complete the volunteer application.
  • If you are under 18, please bring a parent with you to the Orientation class.
  • If you are court ordered, please bring your case # with you.
  • A background check will be completed on all applicants. Sex offenders and violent offenders will not be permitted on job sites.

Step 3: Start Volunteering!

  • You will now begin receiving weekly emails from NCC Habitat’s Volunteer Coordinator with the job sites, volunteer opportunities and specific needs for each week.
  • Come and work!

We appreciate your interest in organizing a volunteer group to support NCC Habitat. Below are two paths to consider in coordinating a volunteer group.

Become a House SponsorCorporate sponsor 2

Every house built by NCC Habitat requires sponsorship support. House sponsors provide the financial underwriting and volunteers for each house. A few of the benefits of becoming a house sponsor include larger group sizes, higher priority and more frequent build dates.    There are many different levels or sponsorships available, and you might be surprised that there is one for you.

Organize a Non-Sponsor Group

If your group does not have the resources to sponsor a house, you can coordinate a non-sponsor group for building projects and limited weekend support.  These opportunities are on a first come, first serve basis and are subject to construction calendar availability. We will do our best to accommodate the maximum amount of volunteers we can for your group, depending for the needs we have at the time.   We do ask for a minimum donation of $500 and can give you many ideas your group may find helpful for fundraising through your group.

All Volunteers must have attended an Orientation AND signed a waiver.

Applicable Age Restrictions are:

      • Youth 14 -17 years must have a parent or guardian with them on all tasks including orientation.
      • Youth 14 -15 can landscape, paint, or lot clean.
      • Youth 16 -17 cannot use power tools, work from a height of over 6 feet or other ultra-hazardous tasks.
      • Youth 16 & up may volunteer in ReStore after attending orientation with parent.
      • Youth under the age of 14 are not allowed on the construction work site.


Volunteer Sign-ups

Please sign-up for the day/time you want to volunteer by contacting the Habitat Volunteer Coordinator, or if you are with a group, your group coordinator. You must have a signed waiver form on file, if you are under 18 (ages 14 -17, inclusive) the waiver must also be signed by parent or guardian.  If you are under 18 a parent/guardian must work on site with you.

At The Work Site

All volunteers must sign-in before beginning work at the site for insurance and grant purposes.  The insurance company needs a record of all volunteers at the work site should an accident occur.  We do track all hours volunteers work because almost every grant we receive funds from requires this information.

Work Sites

NCC Habitat workdays are generally scheduled for Saturdays 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and sometimes weekdays, all days weather permitting.  If we have too many on a build site (i.e. larger than expected group participation) you may be asked to move to another build site or reschedule for a later date.  Volunteer “drop-in” on the Work Site is discouraged.

  • Your health insurance card (in case of an emergency)
  • Tools, labeled with your name
  • Carpenter Pencils

Community Service Hours or Restitutionyouth volunteering 800

If you have been sentenced by the court to perform community service, you may meet our requirements to volunteer on job sites or at the ReStore.  Please contact the volunteer coordinator at for more information or RSVP for a scheduled orientation.  See our Calendar of Events (link) for Orientation dates and times.

Community Service volunteers only receive credit for hours personally worked. No one other than the Community Service Volunteer can complete hours for credit. Each individual is responsible for bringing any paperwork with them required by the court, as well as signing in at our volunteer work site.

Although the volunteer needs NCC Habitat has will vary week to week, there are several opportunities that we frequently need help with.  Plus, if you are not able or interested in using a hammer, Habitat may still be the place for you to serve!

Family Mentors – Every Habitat family is given a mentor to help them through the Habitat culture and program expectations.  Mentors also support the family with advice and suggestions, and help them stay on track until the family has moved into their new home.  After the family closes on the home, the mentors will continue their relationship with the family to encourage and advise on home maintenance and other household questions new homeowners have.

Office Administration – Habitat is always looking for hands to help, even if our need is answering phones, filing, researching or data analysis.  Lend your God-given skills to Habitat and we will put you to work!

Lunch Provider – Each workday we provide lunch for our building volunteers and lunch at the ReStore on Saturdays.  If your gifts lie in hospitality, we have just the project for you.  A simple lunch could be provided at the work sites for up to 40 volunteers.  Catering or homemade is acceptable.  Sign-ups are handled through the Volunteer Coordinator and this opportunity does not require Orientation.

ReStore Help – Our ReStore can always use extra help painting, cleaning, moving, pricing or unloading.  Plus, it is open Tuesday through Saturday of each week.  Opportunities abound at the ReStore!

Job Site Construction – Of course, Habitat has built a reputation of forming strong teams of volunteers to build a home.  We are scheduling crews for various tasks throughout the construction process and repair projects.  Working on Habitat job sites will get you skills you can’t get just anywhere.  We will teach you what you need to know and bring all the tools with us.

House Leaders – House leaders are important construction leaders on the job sites.  These individuals are skilled in construction know-how and have undergone the training necessary to lead volunteer crews on home construction job sites.  These dedicated individuals are on site for each build day on their assigned home.
